Paragliding

In the Air

Paragliding is an aerial adventure sport where you fly through the air using a lightweight, foot-launched glider. After taking off from a hill or mountain, pilots glide through the air, steering with brake toggles and shifting body weight. It’s a thrilling yet peaceful experience, offering stunning views and the sensation of free flight. Tandem flights with a certified pilot are available for beginners.

FAQs (EN)

  • Do I need training to paraglide?
Not for a tandem flight! You’ll fly with a licensed instructor who handles everything. Solo flying requires certified training.
  • How long does a paragliding flight last?
Tandem flights typically last 15–30 minutes, depending on weather and location. Longer flights are possible for experienced pilots.

Fundamentals (EN)

  • Launch
Launch is the moment when you start flying by running on the ground with your wing above your head. You must watch the wind direction carefully and keep good balance. When you feel the wing lifting you, run faster until you lift off. A good launch is very important for a safe and smooth flight.
  • Thermal
Thermal is a column of warm air that rises from the sun-heated ground. Paragliders fly in circles inside thermals to gain height and stay longer in the air. Finding strong thermals and knowing how to use them well is key to flying far and high.
  • Ridge lift
Ridge lift happens when the wind blows against a mountain or hill and rises upwards. Pilots can follow the shape of the ridge to keep flying without losing height. Ridge lift works best when the wind is steady and coming from one direction.
  • Brake
Brake is the line connected to the trailing edge of your wing. Pulling the brake slows the wing down or helps you turn. It’s important to use the brakes gently and smoothly to keep control and avoid sudden movements or collapses.
  • Sink
Sink is the opposite of lift. It is air that moves downwards and makes you lose height quickly. Pilots try to avoid sink areas because they reduce flight time and can make controlling the wing harder.
