Sandboarding

On Land

Sandboarding is a sport where riders slide down sand dunes on a board, similar to snowboarding but on sand. It’s usually done in deserts or large sandy areas. Riders can go fast or perform tricks, making it an exciting and unique way to enjoy sandy landscapes.

FAQs (EN)

  • How fast do you go while sandboarding?
The speed depends on the size of the dune and the type of board you use, but it’s usually slower than snowboarding. You can expect to move at a fun and manageable speed, especially for beginners.
  • How long does a sandboarding session last?
A typical sandboarding session lasts around 1 to 2 hours. This gives you plenty of time to practice and enjoy the experience. Some locations may offer longer sessions.
  • Do I need to be good at snowboarding or skateboarding to try sandboarding?
It can be helpful if you have experience with other board sports, but it's not necessary. Sandboarding is often easier to learn than snowboarding for beginners. Instructors will teach you the basic techniques.

Fundamentals (EN)

  • Edge Control
Edge control means using the sides of the board to turn or stop. You press your heels or toes into the sand to change direction or slow down. Good edge control gives balance and precision.
  • Tail Slide
A tail slide is when you turn the board sideways and slide mainly on the back part (the tail). It’s a fun trick, but it needs good balance and timing.
  • Pop
Pop is the quick movement of pushing down with your legs before a jump. On sand, jumps are harder, so a strong pop is needed to lift off the ground.
  • Frontside / Backside Turn
When you turn with your board, your body can face two ways. A frontside turn is when your chest faces the dune during the turn. A backside turn is when your back faces the dune. These turns feel different. Frontside turns give more visibility and control. Backside turns need more balance and practice.
